What Information is Needed for Engagement Ring Quotes?

There is no doubt at all that custom engagement rings are a great way to find your dream ring. Although you may see a ring and fall in love at first sight, you will likely want to add some customisation. This could be anything from the metal of the band to the size of the stone.

To get an accurate quote from your jeweller, your jeweller needs to have as much information as possible. Prices can vary greatly depending on the stone, carat, metal, style, and setting of your ring.

In this guide, we share some tips on what to include for an accurate engagement ring quote.

What to Include for Accurate Engagement Ring Quotes

Here are a few things you will need to consider when getting engagement ring quotes.

Budget

Your jeweller should always have some idea of how much you plan to spend on the ring. In many cases, a good jeweller will work with you, offering tips and advice on how to choose stones and other details. Without a realistic budget, your jeweller may assume that you have a fortune to spend. This can end up with a quote you can’t afford. It can also make it harder to get any quote at all because your jeweller cannot guess your budget without some input.

Size

This includes the physical size of the stone as well as the carat size. We’ve spoken a bit about ring size before. In many cases, bigger doesn’t always mean better. With the physical size, factors such as cuts will come into play. A very large cushion cut diamond will look much bigger than a large marquise diamond, for example. Carat is another often discussed topic. There is no visible difference when looking at very high carat diamonds. You don’t have to go with a very low carat stone, either. Ideally, look for a carat that is high enough to give you a clear, good quality diamond.

Metal

There are several different types of metal, from white gold to yellow gold, rose gold and platinum. Of all these metals, platinum is generally the most expensive. It is also the strongest metal, however. It retains its shine, and it is extremely durable, making it less prone to scratches over time. 18K white gold has a similar price, with a soft, cool-toned colour. Yellow gold includes 9K and 18K, with prices depending on the Karat. Rose gold also comes in 9K and 18K.

Setting

The setting of the ring refers to how the stones are positioned within the ring. As a general rule of thumb, simpler settings will cost less than complex settings. Common settings include solitaire and prong settings, tension settings, bezel settings, channel settings, and split band settings.

Style

Then there is the overall style of the ring. There are many styles, from classic to modern. Simple styles are generally more affordable. These don’t have to be boring, either. There are many stunning minimal styles. You can look at adding details such as additional gemstones, pave bands, engraving or other details that help your ring stand out more. Complex ring styles will often be pricier, as they often have larger stones, thicker bands, more complex settings, and other details.
