Engagement ring layering doesn’t only apply to how you wear this ring with your wedding ring. Depending on the type of ring you’ve chosen, you may also wear additional rings, such as stacked rings. You may also want to wear rings on your other fingers. While it’s a great way to mix things up and prevent boredom, there are a few things you’ll need to know about engagement ring layering. In this guide, we take a look at some dos and don’ts to keep in mind.
Engagement Ring Layering Tips
Here’s what you will need to consider if you are layering your engagement ring with other rings.
DO…
…Experiment with different metals and stones. Mixing rose gold, yellow gold, white gold and platinum doesn’t have to be tacky. If you take time to see what looks good, you can end up with contrasting stacks that look good.
…Keep it simple. With that said, make sure that you stick to simple rings. Your engagement ring should always be your key focus. You want to layer your wedding ring and other rings that highlight your main ring without overshadowing the ring.
…Look for similarities. You could also choose a theme for your layers. This could include layering rings of the same metal or rings in the same cut. You could choose similar stones or those that work with diamonds. This can help create a more seamless look.
DON’T
…Add too many rings in a single layer. Although you can (and should) get creative, you don’t want to end up with a ring finger full of rings. Instead, you want to carefully choose one or two delicate rings that work with your engagement and wedding ring.
…Use the wrong types of ring. You can layer many ring styles but not all of them. For example, a tiara ring would work perfectly in a ring stack. A large halo floral ring may not be as easy to stack with rings beside your wedding band. Some rings may have settings that will catch on clothing if other layers are added.
…Forget that you can change things up whenever you like. You don’t have to wear your wedding or engagement ring 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can wear one with another ring you love for a day or two and then change things up and wear the other ring with something different. These are your rings and that means you have the choice to layer them in a way that suits your mood, style, and preference.
